About

Hello!

My name is Ruby Bircher and I am a South-West of England based makeup artist.  I have enjoyed being creative all my life and pursued the arts throughout my school career; I participated in numerous theatrical productions as well as developing a passion for sculpting and photography, of which I have exhibited. Following my A-Levels, I attended the University of York where I studied Theatre: Writing, Directing and Performance. It was here that I discovered a love of design where I was selected for the role of set designer in several productions leading up to my graduation in July 2019 where I was proud to attain a First-Class Honours Degree.

Following my graduation, I had the extraordinary opportunity to go to Pinewood Studios and study special-effects makeup and prosthetics with Creative Media Skills. On an intensive 4-week course, I learnt from top industry professionals such as Chris Fitzpatrick and Ian Morse, developing my skills in various techniques, including sculpting and moulding, life-casting, flat mould application, bald caps, laying on facial hair and blood tubing prosthetics.

My experience at Pinewood cemented my desire to forge a career as a film and television makeup artist, leading me to look for further opportunities to advance my skills. In January 2020, I enrolled onto the Peter Swords King Media Makeup Course at the Bath Academy of Media Makeup, where I have expanded my creative horizons to become a professional makeup artist. Once again working under the tutelage of industry professionals, such as Linda A. Morton and Fiona Maynard, I have refined my skills in makeup application, including the study of period and vintage styles, as well as develop an unexpected flair and enjoyment of hairstyling, wig-making and postiche.

I have an enduring enthusiasm for film and television and will be seeking opportunities to produce great makeup and work with great makeup artists in this exciting creative industry following my graduation from BAMM.
